1. Is HPG hotter than acetylene?

1A) Acetylene has a flame temperature of 5,589 when combined with Oxygen. HPG has a flame temperature of 5,295 when combined with Oxygen. Acetylene provides 1,460 btu’s per Cu Ft. HPG provides 2,400 btu’s per Cu Ft. So Acetylene has a slightly higher flame temperature, but HPG provides more heat.

2. What is HPG?

2A) HPG is a Hydrocarbon, the technical name is propylene. It is a co-product that is made at the same plants that make plastic.

3. Can I use my existing equipment if I convert to HPG?

3A) Usually the only change to make is the tip itself.

4. Do the HPG Tips cost more?

4A) HPG Tips should cost about the same as your current tips.

6. Can I use HPG for welding?

6A) No, HPG is an excellent gas for cutting, heating, and brazing. If you need to weld, acetylene is still the correct gas to use.

7. Will I use more Oxygen with HPG?

7A) No, it may seem like you do, because the HPG cylinders outlast the same size acetylene at a ratio of five to one. You should not see an increase in oxygen usage.
